Mosquitoes in Paris & Île-de-France — SOS 4D Paris

Anti-mosquito treatment (including tiger mosquito) for gardens, terraces and premises in Île-de-France.

Étape 1

Our treatments against mosquitoes

The fight against mosquitoes combines targeted adulticidal treatment (residual spraying on resting areas: hedges, undergrowth, façades) and destruction of larval breeding sites (removal and biological treatment with Bti of residual water points). On terraces and around restaurants, specific tiger mosquito traps provide long-term completion of the setup.

Targeted adulticidal treatment

Residual spraying of TP18 biocidal products on resting zones such as hedges, undergrowth and building façades to eliminate active adult populations.

Larval breeding site destruction

Removal of all stagnant water sources and biological Bti treatment of water points that cannot be removed, breaking the larval development cycle.

Tiger mosquito traps

Installation of specific traps to monitor and reduce populations in areas with high activity (terraces, gardens, outdoor dining areas).

Étape 2

Habitat and behaviour of mosquitoes

Mosquitoes develop in four stages (egg, larva, pupa, adult) and the first three take place in water. A female lays 100 to 300 eggs in any stagnant water retention: flowerpot saucers, blocked gutters, rainwater drains, decorative fountains, forgotten buckets, poorly tensioned tarpaulins, balcony drains. In just 7 to 10 days in hot weather, the eggs become adults ready to bite. The tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), now durably established throughout the Île-de-France, is distinguished from the common mosquito by its black and white stripes, its daytime activity and its very short action radius: it bites and reproduces within 150 metres of its hatching site.

Étape 3

What causes an infestation?

A local invasion is almost always linked to a nearby overlooked larval breeding site: a saucer under a plant pot, a rainwater drain obstructed by leaves, unmaintained guttering, garden furniture tarpaulin, a child's toy left outside, or a vase not emptied. Urban heatwaves, residual humidity in courtyards, dense vegetation on balconies and the multiplication of Parisian terraces amplify the phenomenon year after year. At the scale of a building or housing estate, a single untreated breeding site (roof terrace, rainwater downpipe, paved courtyard) is enough to maintain an active population from May to October, hence the importance of a methodical external check before any adulticidal treatment.

Étape 4

How do you recognise an infestation?

The most obvious sign remains repeated bites in the late afternoon, followed by the presence of adults inside rooms, attracted by light. In gardens and on terraces, careful examination of pot saucers, gutters and drains often reveals immobile larvae on the surface of the stagnant water — this is where control is most effective, well before the adults take flight.

Étape 5

Where do they hide?

Mosquitoes develop wherever water stagnates: pot saucers, blocked gutters, unmaintained ponds, rubbish chutes, undergrowth and dense hedges, drain outlets, children's toys forgotten in the garden. The tiger mosquito, now established in the Île-de-France, needs only a few centilitres of water to lay its eggs, which makes the suppression of larval breeding sites as important as adulticidal treatment.

Étape 6

Health and property risks

Beyond the itching and marked allergic reactions in some, the tiger mosquito can transmit dengue, chikungunya and the Zika virus when it bites a carrier. An infestation in a garden, on a terrace or around an outdoor business makes the space uncomfortable to use from dusk and leads, for restaurants and brasseries, to repeated complaints from customers.

Étape 7

Our 5-step intervention

  1. 1

    Full inspection

Complete inspection of the premises, precise identification of the pest, assessment of the infestation level and of the layout of the site in order to define the most effective intervention strategy.

  2. 2

    Transparent quote

A detailed quote is issued before any intervention, presenting the recommended solutions, the response times and any travel costs that may apply.

  3. 3

    Professional treatment

Intervention carried out by a certified technician using mechanical, thermal or chemical methods suited to your situation, in full compliance with current regulations.

  4. 4

    Prevention & proofing

Identification of the causes of the infestation, tailored recommendations and, where necessary, sealing of entry points to limit the risk of re-infestation.

  5. 5

    Follow-up & support

An intervention report is issued, along with post-treatment advice and the option to schedule a follow-up visit or a monitoring contract according to your needs.

Étape 9

How can infestations be prevented?

Methodically removing any stagnant water around the building remains by far the most effective measure: regular maintenance of gutters, turning over saucers, emptying ornamental ponds not equipped with fish, and monitoring drains. To complete this, installing fly screens on windows, occasional larvicidal treatment of residual water points and specific traps for the tiger mosquito provide durable protection.
