Garden stink bugs — SOS 4D Paris

Preventive and curative treatment in Paris and Île-de-France

Garden stink bugs are increasingly present around homes, particularly in late summer and autumn. Drawn to the warmth of facades and buildings, they can gather in large numbers on walls, windows and shutters or enter homes looking for winter shelter. At SOS 4D Paris, we offer effective prevention and treatment solutions to limit their proliferation and prevent seasonal invasions.

Step 1

How to recognise the infestation?

Garden stink bugs are easily recognised by their characteristic shield shape, generally brown, green or marbled depending on the species. As the first cold sets in, they gather in large numbers on sunlit facades, around windows, under shutters, in roller-shutter boxes, attics or lofts.

It is common to find dozens, or even hundreds, gathered on exterior walls or near openings. Some enter homes through the smallest cracks, vents or window seals to overwinter.

Step 2

Why is it dangerous?

Most garden stink bugs pose no direct danger to humans: they don't bite, don't transmit diseases and don't damage buildings.

However, their presence can quickly become very disruptive:

  • mass invasions of homes in autumn;
  • strong visual nuisance on facades, balconies and terraces;
  • particularly unpleasant odour when crushed or handled;
  • significant multiplication year after year if no preventive measure is taken.

Some invasive species, such as the brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys), also cause significant damage to crops, orchards and gardens, promoting their development in urban and peri-urban areas.

An intervention can durably limit their presence, secure entry points and prevent seasonal invasions before their overwintering period.

Step 3

Our intervention method

  1. 1

    Inspection of south facades and frames

    Locating pre-overwintering clusters on sunlit walls, shutters, under-roof areas.

  2. 2

    Residual outdoor spraying

    September–October application on facades, frames and attics: 2–3 month barrier effect.

  3. 3

    Vacuuming of indoor individuals

    Vacuum removal without crushing (releases a foul odour). Bag disposed of immediately.

  4. 4

    Access sealing

    Window gaps, air vents and cracks sealed before winter.
